Below we will take you to a project that we did where you can see how lack of maintenance form the previous owner let this property open to the harsh realities of our South Florida weather.

South Florida Project

In this particular project, the homeowner notices that there so brown spots on his was below his windows and also noticed that the sheetrock seem a bit wet. When we went there a saw this, we explain that there was definitely some issued with mold and there was clearly a leak that was not entirely penetrating the interior of this room, but the discoloration on the walls clearly proof the statement to be true. When we inspected the exterior wall, we noticed water stains under the window. One of the reason this happens is simply the lack maintenance to the home exterior. We advise our clients to pressure wash their properties twice a year so this sort of things can be uncover before they get worst.

Going back to the project, we began to remove the sheetrock and surely enough the 2x4 were completely wet as the home was never sealed properly nor it was covered with cement board which is highly recommended to use in areas that can be exposed to water as they provide a strong, water-durable and mold resistant protection. Once everything was exposed we began the process to make it right and replaced some of the 2x4 as well as covered the entire surface with cement boards. Once this was done, we then remove the old seals around the windows and redid them to ensure that there were no more holes to prevent any future leaks.

The next steps in this project after making sure that everything was sealed properly, was to begging the prepping of the wall phase so we could begin applying the wood paneling to enhance the room with a feature wall. There are a couple of steps that must be taken when it comes to installing wood paneling:

1)     Measuring: This is the most important part of the project, as this allows us to have a clear understanding on the material that would be used keeping in mind that we need to subtract the window sizes so that we can determine the number of sheet that will be use.

2)     Level: One of the main things that is often overlooked by homeowner that decide to take on the project themselves, is the fact that walls are very rarely straight and it is why the first panel must be level to ensure that the rest of the project aligns correctly.

3)     Trimming: We always trim the panels as many times as it is necessary to ensure that when they are put together they align perfect to the walls so they can look straight from any angle.

4)     Cut outs: This part is very crucial to the build as it is where you would make cutouts for your electrical outlets. We do this by creating a template with paper by marking the floor and measuring twice to ensure the cutout is as close as possible to the size of the outlet.

5)     Adhesive and Nails: It is important to label the panels to ensure that you install them in the correct order and also making sure that the cutout align perfectly to their location on the wall. After the adhesive has been applied, then you can use finishing nails (optional but recommended) and applying to the studs by using a studfinder.

Once the panels have been properly secure on the wall, then we can install the baseboards and crown moldings so we can begin to paint them to whatever color is desired by the customer.
